Strombus #3
2024
72”L x 36” W x 28” D
Materials: Cardboard, mis-tint paint, fabric dye, oatmeal, couscous, cotton swabs, and sand.
Strombus #3 is my largest breaded sculpture to date. It also consists of over thirty thousand individually dyed and glued into place cotton swabs. In using trash and common household items to create Strombus #3, this sculpture subverts our perceptions of value by blurring the lines between waste, what is natural, what is impermanent and yet appears fossilized – a lasting testament to our heavily polluted world.
Mersitem #4
2024
48” x 48”. 14” depth.

Meristems are essentially the plant world’s version of stem cells. My Meristem sculptures are symbolic for the tenacity of nature and how when left to its own whims, nature will thrive. Hidden in the beauty of these pieces however, is tension and strife, for each one of these growths is in competition with its neighbors. In beauty there is always conflict.

Ciliates are tiny organisms common anywhere there is water. They are hardy creatures which can even survive in oxygen-depleted habitats. Ciliophora #1 is part of my ongoing quest to create a taxonomy of trash. In a world where trash is alive, how would we classify it?
